Obsessing over cutouts right now. Searching the ebay vintage section for summer stuff today (swimsuits, slip dresses, cotton shorts) I came across this swimsuit:

amazing. possibly the perfect combination of sexiness and vintage appeal. I can't seem to ever really pull off a vintage piece unless there is something modern about it. Too bad it has a $250 price tag. So sad.

I've been meaning to do a couple cutout projects, having seen cutout tees, tanks, and blazers and the Chloe cutout dress I've posted about before, I know there must be a perfect cutout shape out there for me. I'm really starting to think it is this triangle showcasing the--what is that--your ribcage? would be good for me. haha... its about the only part I would really feel comfortable showing I think. Although, I'm open to others...

No Doubt is going on TOUR!!!! Can't, can't wait. Probablly the number one band I need desperately to see live. I was worried I would never get the chance!

I have always loved them. I was in the 5th grade when their first album came out.

Gwen's style and her spunk, and the boys she loves-they all kick ass! Not to mention that her lyrics have always struck a chord with me.

Sophie Muller (she has my last name!) has directed alot of No Doubts videos and I love every one of those as well. Gwen's riding around on a jet ski with the guys or looking gorgeous with barely any makeup on (in Underneath it All), my favorite one being Cool though, where she is running around Italy as a younger Gwen in sweet dresses and polka dotted maillots. I'm a fan forever. I'm so pumped.

A round up of cheap, if somewhat unsual beauty products and how to use them to your best advantage.

my current list of multitasking products:

-Watkins' lavender skin oil
I use this as a moisturizer, it makes makeup go on so much smoother. I also put a drop in my hair to make it shiny and hold curl better.

-Smiths rosebud salve
the (obvious) but greatest: works for everything.

-visine
gets rid of redness in skin. good for your eyeballs too, pothead.

-cherry jello mix
mix a little powder mix with water and apply with a brush as a lipstain + bonus! it tastes good. : )

-old darker shade of powder from the summer months
use as a blush/bronzer and you already had it just sitting there!

-mascara
I have dirty blond hair and use this to darken my eyebrows after I do my lashes. Use whatevers left on the wand and lightly brush through your brows, then go back with a brow brush if you like.

A few that are expensive but worth it in my opinion:

-garnier fructis regenerating lotion / morning and night
-tressame conditioner / good for fine hair (use before you shampoo)
-clinique color surge eyeshadows / perfect shimmer w/out blinding yourself looking in the mirror
-almay long wear liquid eyeliner / just enough stay put vs. smudgeability

Heres me copycatting again. As far as diy projects go, this might be the easiest, and best results I've ever gotten. I will definately try this again. The great thing about body chains is that there are so many different kinds out there. Making it myself allowed me to fit it specifically for my body.

For this I started with two 6 foot lengths of small chain, and one length of a size larger. I used small eyelets (which are just metal loops that you bend open) to connect the chains at front and back. I dug through my odds and ends and picked out a three cornered (fake) diamond cluster which I put in front to hang chain from and I put a tiny metal key in the back. Thats it! I just kept trying it on and changing things and messing with it until I was satisfied.

UPDATE:
Wore it out for the first time last night. Kinda broke it. Might need some adjusting... I tend to be a little rough on things. Haha!

It's the first week of the spring quarter and the weather is a sloth.

I keep seeing little hints of spring trying to fight its way through unpredictable Ohio weather, and I am getting really impatient. While I'm really looking forward to April and May because of all the wonderful fleamarkets, garage sales and outdoor events to come, and because my cabin fever and dry skin are symptoms that I'm ready to kick, thats not to say I'm at all ready for s-s-s-(swimsuits)! Ugh. What was it Jennifer Garner said? I need to get my biscuit on the treadmill.

As I was sitting in my textiles and clothing class (the one where I'm reviewing this book) my teacher, who I love already, asks the room a question while on the topic of music in retail shops. She says, "what kind of music do they play in forever 21?" You have to understand, this is in a very large class with only two boys in the room.

Not one person said anything. Imaginary crickets were suddenly angrily chirping at us. I almost lost what composure I had at that moment and laughed out loud. You know 3/4 of the girls in that room shop there regularly! None of them wanted to admit it though, and answering the question would have given them away. It kind of bothers me if someone really worries that much about the way they are perceived by others. If I was ashamed of where I shopped, I wouldn't be able to tell anyone that I shopped, period. I wouldn't want to bring the subject up because I would be listing goodwill, for the majority of my wardrobe, and places like Marcs grocery stores, garage sales, and fleamarkets! I think the most stylish place I've ever shopped is the Gap. I would like to say it is the challenge that propels me through the dirty glass doors and towards the musty racks of used clothing or piled, wrinkled pieces, but its not the strongest factor. I'm just another cheapass college student.Where do you shop when you want a good deal on something unique?

cabin fever

Aaaah!!

Cabin fever, finals, and a new puppy have gotten the best of me. I went goodwill shopping (and surprisingly, not drinking) to take the edge off. I'm saving the partying till wednesday night after my last two exams. I thought I would never make it, but its finally spring break!! I cannot wait! This is the first break in about three years when I'm not working the entire time.

The only bad thing about spring break coming is...bathing suits. I am not looking forward to putting one on for the first time...or working out! Anyone have an idea for a FUN workout? I was thinking of taking a dance class or rollerblading...

Fashion Trends, American Beauty, and An Accute Uncertainty About the Future

While I'd rather be in a dark movie theatre with five friends watching "Run, Fatboy, Run", this week has been my own personal hell hole so, I sadly cannot. Finals are coming up and as usual I've spent the quarter being completely average by procrastinating and stress eating my way into a second double chin. (does that make it a, quadruple chin?) Currently whats left of my intellectual brain is laying stagnate while I figure out exactly what I want to do with my Journalism career. I really would like to enjoy at least parts of my job. (as I twitch into an ugly grimace at the thought of going back to my serving job for the weekend where I'm everybody's offical shit taker.) It's pretty sad when you look forward to the school week more than the week end. Actually, the only thing I look forward to these days is Wednesday night kareoke and an ice cold beer.

Speaking of kareoke, it was there last Wednesday that I witnessed those...I don't know, the high heeled booties, clogs, whatever you all call them, in action. Yes, they were on a skinny girl. They seemed simple, old fashioned even, but I can't quite get to the checkout counter with them. They are one of those trends that I just can't wrap my head around, and it doesn't help that they make my calves look like a man biceps. Something that they randomly reminded me of is the movie American Beauty.

If you haven't seen it, the movie is about one of "those girls" who you have a non-lesbian girl crush on. Do you know what I mean? She dresses immaculately, constantly inducing jealously in every other girl. She's absolutely gorgeous, impossibly thin, all the guys want her...blah blah and a great personality. TELL me about it. I have to give it to her though, because while she has all those things, I think the real difference between her and the rest of us (the most important one anyway) is mysteriousness. She just has a sensuality and illusiveness about her. "That girl", I've met a few times over the years since about age 12, and though she is always looks a little different, you can still tell she's different. Oh...how I wish I could steal a little American-Beauty-mystery for myself! I guess since I can't pull off the clog-bootie thing, maybe I'll just have to settle for some good ol' mary janes.

Broken Angel

Broken Angel is this facisnating building in Brooklyn, built by Arthur Wood. He and his wife have lived in Broken Angel for thirty years, and the New York City Building department is trying to tear it down. It has been used as a backdrop for David Chappelle and Michel Gondry's concert film. The Woods are currently working with an architectural firm in NY (Parnass Digital Architecture) to bring it up to NYC's building code. They are taking help from anyone who is willing to contribute their skill, and donations by mail can be sent to:

I think this is a really great pieace of architecture! Go to the site and look at the pictures. It is a piece of art. I hope to visit it one day. Lets help them keep it around.

Mmhmm, wow.

That sure is something I have not seen or felt in a long time! [NO, its not that.] But what I would I compare a 5 minute orgasm to? Simple. That would be, Caroline Darrieux's clothing designs. The portuguese designer's collection is just too much for my ADD brain to handle. But it likes the challenge. Ties here, sequins there, and just when you think you recognise an item of clothing, and your saying, is that a....BAM! No, its not. Thats just what it used to be. Now its something entirely different, and its fabulous.

Her unconciously creative way of thinking obviously extends much further than her clothes. The models are painted black almost completely, except for parts of the face, which for some reason, reminds me of a certain type of Spider monkey. (do not judge me, I did not know the actual name, I had to look it up)

All I have to say is, do not sit here a moment longer reading my run-on sentences, CHECK her out, because she is the real deal!

Okay. Now, I'm sorry.

But this is exciting news!

Just found out that you can grow your own loofa sponge, you know, the kind you use in the shower. It's a vegtable! I mean, I knew it was a plant, but had no idea you could grow your own.
For all who already knew this, shut up you smug bastards! This post is for those who didn't.
You can't plant them until spring, but plan on it because you know you want to now!
